Andrew Davidson's Best Selling Book, The Gargoyle
Andrew Davidson is a Canadian novelist. Graduating from the University of British Colombia with a B.A. in English literature, he has written a well-known novel, entitled The Gargoyle. The Gargoyle is a psychological thriller that dives into numerous, different themes; drugs, religion, loss-of-hope, love, reconciliation, and mental illness are all brought together in this book, with use of medieval history to properly capture the darkness Davidson was trying to convey, that lives inside of all of us. The Gargoyle, shows the fight between good versus evil, light versus dark, angels versus demons, love versus hate, and life versus death.
The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson is a national best-selling novel split into two separate stories: one being that taking place in real time, while the other taking place in the past, as if told as folklore. The main story follows an anonymous atheist, and former porn star reviewing their childhood struggles. Later on, Marianne Engel is introduced into the book, and becomes an instrumental character to the novel. The portion of the book taking place in the past, introduces us to a monastery called Engelthal, in fourteenth-century Germany. Both segments of the book come together to validate central points and themes.
Andrew Davidson's The Gargoyle showcases several distinct themes. One major theme is battling one's demons. The central character struggles through drug addiction, and must overcome the temptation. Another theme in The Gargoyle is the will to live. Andrew Davidson's novel shows how precious life is, and how living is worth far more, than giving up. One other prominent theme is that of love. This book shows its audience, that no matter what trials one may go through, we as humans still have the capacity to love and be loved. The Gargoyle also uses karma as a point for reconciliation.
